Seven Silly Myths about Cellulite

Cellulite is one of those annoying things that often leave people confused and stunned. Even supermodels are getting cellulite, which makes one believe that it has more to do with genetics and lifestyle than it does anything else. Experts are researching and finding out more than ever about cellulite, however there are still various silly myths floating around about cellulite. Look at these seven silly myths about cellulite to get a better understanding about the condition in general.

Carbonated Beverages v. Cellulite

One of the most common myths about cellulite is that drinking carbonated beverages will cause it to appear. The myth is focused on the untruth that the sodium in carbonated beverages and soda pop causes swollen fat cells. The truth is that cellulite is not composed of swollen fat cells. Cellulite cells are close to the skin and are fat cells, but they are not swollen cells. They are actually cells that are trapped in the connective tissue near the skin and become deformed because of the entrapment. Therefore, although water is a better way to hydrate yourself, drinking soda pop or other carbonated beverages will not give you cellulite.

Age v. Cellulite

Many people think that only old people get cellulite. In fact, they often think that you have to be over 40 to get this annoying skin problem. However, the truth is you are more likely to get cellulite at an older age, due to the skin thinning as you age. However, you can begin to get cellulite at any age. In fact, teens are now complaining of cellulite!

The Body v. Cellulite

The most common places for cellulite to appear are the thighs and buttocks. In fact, one myth is that these are the only places on the body that cellulite can appear. Those who have cellulite in other locations know this myth is not true, but many people still believe it. Cellulite is so annoying that it can show up in many different places. It is frequently seen on arms and stomachs as well, but there is really no place it could not appear.

Weight v. Cellulite

Another myth about cellulite is that only fat people experience it. This one has been disproved many times over the past few years. Even if you are thin, you can still get cellulite, which is often disturbing to many skinny people of the world. Again, supermodels are coming forth complaining of cellulite and they are likely the thinnest people of the world.

Exercise v. Cellulite

While it is true that exercise will help you prevent cellulite, it is a myth that exercise will take away any form of cellulite. In fact, many people still have cellulite, even though they work out daily. Cellulite can be hard to get rid of because it is trapped in the area of connective tissue by your skin. Therefore, even if you lose weight or build muscle, that area may or may not be affected by your work.

Society v. Cellulite

The sixth myth of cellulite is that society does not want to see it. For instance, there are millions of women who refuse to wear shorts in the hottest temperatures because they have cellulite on their legs. The truth is that society is more accepting of cellulite than you might think. In fact, people rarely take too much notice of it, and even if they do, they never comment on it. So, go ahead and be comfortable. Life is too short to worry about what other people think!

Creams v. Cellulite

The last myth states that there are creams that can take cellulite away forever. This is simply not true either. You cannot count on a cellulite cream to take away your problem. There are creams that may be able to help reduce the appearance of cellulite; however, they cannot guarantee your cellulite will be cured, because there is no cure for it.
